The Bishop Ajayi Crowther Scholarship is a prestigious award named in honor of one of Nigeria’s most notable figures, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African Anglican bishop and a pioneer in education and Christianity in West Africa. This scholarship is designed to recognize and reward academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service among deserving students.

The Bishop Ajayi Crowther Scholarship is a merit-based award that aims to support students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and a dedication to making a positive impact in their communities. The scholarship is open to both current and prospective students of the University on the Niger, ensuring that our brightest minds have access to the resources they need to succeed.

To be considered for the Bishop Ajayi Crowther Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Excellence: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 5.0 scale or its equivalent for current students.
  • Leadership Potential: Demonstrated leadership experience in school, church, or community initiatives.
  • Enrollment: Must be enrolled or accepted into a full-time program at the University on the Niger.
  • Character: Must provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher, religious leader, or employer attesting to the applicant’s integrity, character, and leadership qualities.

Recipients of the Bishop Ajayi Crowther Scholarship will receive:

  • Full or Partial Tuition Coverage: Based on merit, the scholarship can cover up to 100% of tuition fees for the duration of the recipient’s program.
  • Book Allowance: A stipend for purchasing textbooks and academic materials.
  • Mentorship Opportunities: Access to mentorship programs from industry leaders and university faculty.
  • Leadership Development: Participation in leadership workshops and training programs designed to enhance personal and professional growth.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should follow the steps below:

  1. Complete the Application Form: The application form can be completed in your applicant/student portal. Fill out all required information.
  2. Submit Academic Records: Current students should upload their latest transcripts, while prospective students should provide WAEC or NECO results. (Already submitted).
  3. Provide Letters of Recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation. One of the two letters of recommendation must come from your priest.
  4. Write a Personal Statement: Submit a 500-word essay detailing your academic goals, leadership experiences, and how you plan to contribute to your church upon graduation.
  5. Download the Covenant: You must download, read, fill required information, sign and upload fully completed and signed covenant.

All application materials should be submitted via the University’s applicant/student portal by the stated deadline.

Selection Process

A selection committee will review all applications based on the eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with the scholarship board. Final decisions will be based on academic merit, leadership potential, community involvement, and the interview performance.
